The Off Season

Below is the plan I have set out for myself in the remaining 4 months of the year. The idea for the off season came to me on sep 1, the first day I felt good health wise after the UC flare and the first day after the summer term at Dartmouth. I realized I had 4 free months ahead of me with hopefully great health with no obligations to the past. This was as fresh of a start as there was. I decided to be extra intentional about this time.

The goal of the off season is to destress and focus on leisure while making great strides in the two pursuits I care about: personal health and making people healthier through technology.

The off season is exactly what it sounds like, an off season. Athletes use this time to recover and rebuild, while adding new skills for the coming season. I will do the same. Here is the off season 1-pager.

The Off Season

Sep 1 - Dec 31 2025

Overarching Life Focus:

  • Health: Train for Sprint/Olympic distance tris to qualify for Worlds, after competing at Nationals (next aug in Wisconsin) -> Do 70.3 Madison Sep 12 for fun (possibly qualify for Worlds 2027)
  • Entrepreneur: Become a capable ML founding engineer by reading research and building actual projects related to health - start shipping

Obligations:

  • SWE Mastery project
  • SWE Summer Job Apps + Leet Code
  • Painted Cold Email (before the 20th of every month add leads)
  • Weekly Accountability Updates
  • Classes (CS 49 Distributed Computation, CS 32 Advanced Algs, CS 78 Deep Learning)
  • Distributed Computation Research
  • XH Social Stuff

Leisure:

  • Walk
  • Read/Write
  • Youtube
  • Rick and Morty + Game of Thrones Rewatch

Experiments:

Body Recomp

  • Start = 142 lbs, Goal = 155 lbs (slow build back to usual 162 lbs)
  • Target rate = .8 lbs a week => 12.8 pound total gain to get muscle back
  • Lift 5-6x a week
  • Track cals w/ macro factor
  • Sleep

Productivity System:

  • Minimal: Calendar is set with ideal week
  • Daily: Check calendar for next day, modify if need be
  • Sundays: Film reflection of week thinking about these intentions; Review next week
  • Tasks: Keep running tasks on whiteboard/ in tasks

Other Notes:

  • No drinking til end of year at least (due to prednisone, antibiotics, and lack of interest)
